Bishop Election Information

The Northwestern Minnesota Synod will be holding a bishop election at this year's Synod Assembly. Pr. Robert Dahlen, Goodridge has chosen to remove himself from further consideration as a pre-nominee. Although there is only one potential nominee for bishop prior to the Synod Assembly, Bishop Lawrence Wohlrabe, it is important to know that the bishop election process in our synod is still by an ecclesiastical ballot. Just as in previous bishop elections, on Friday evening of the assembly all registered voting members may place on the first ballot the name of any ordained clergy who is in good standing on the roster of the ELCA. The balloting process will continue until an election occurs. In the coming weeks please be in discernment and prayer for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to raise up candidates for bishop who possess gifts and leadership qualities for leading God's people.

For more information regarding the responsibilities of a synod bishop see Exhibit J: Bishops' Relational Agreement on elca.org...

What is an intervention?

from Lost and Found Ministry

An intervention is the time when family members come together to engage an outside expert to intervene with them in the life of their loved one who is struggling with an addiction.

An intervention usually has several parts. The first visit with the interventionist is to assess the situation and figure out what to do next. You go home, write a letter to your loved one, and gather the right people to join you in the intervention.

Next, you practice what you want to say during the intervention and who should say it. The third visit is the actual intervention and may take place at our office, in your home, or in another location. And the fourth visit is to debrief about how things went. Once your loved one accepts treatment and wants to get better, we encourage the family to continue their own counseling and healing after the intervention.

The Lost and Found Ministry
Lost and Found Ministry offers respectful, confidential interventions and family counseling. Call 218-287-2089 for more information or email us at interventions@lostandfoundministry.org. Lost and Found Ministry, a program of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, is a Christian ministry for those who struggle with addictions.

Visit the Lost and Found library for helpful resources on addictions, family life situations, raising children, confronting bullying, and many other topics related to being human. It is located at 111 7th St. So. in Moorhead and is open M-F from 8-5 pm and M-Th evenings from 7-9 pm.

Companion Synod Prayer

This is part of a series of regular prayers for the people, congregations, and ministries of our companion synod, the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church. Use these prayers in your personal devotions, with church councils or leadership groups, or during the prayers of intercession in your congregation's weekly worship.
Bp. Fredrick Paradesi Babu and his family with Bp. Larry and Joy Wohlrabe
Bp. Fredrick Paradesi Babu and his family
with Bp. Larry and Joy Wohlrabe

This week we remember in prayer our companion synod as they have just completed the AELC Convention, which is the similar to our Synod Assembly. At this Convention, our brothers and sisters elected a new bishop to lead their growing church. Bishop Frederick Paradesi Babu of Bhimavaram of West Godavari Synod has been called to lead the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church as their Moderator Bishop. Bp. Larry Wohlrabe shared this information about the Bp. Frederick, "It so happens that Bishop Frederick and his wife are among a small handful of persons with whom I have had multiple, happy encounters during my two trips to India in 2009 and 2012, so I'm glad that the new Moderator Bishop is someone I know and like. This photo is from our November 2012 trip, in Frederick's home (with his wife, daughter and her husband) after I preached in the congregation he has served in Bhimavaram." Please join us as we pray for Bishop Fredrick, his family, and the people of the AELC. We ask that you use this prayer on Sunday, June 9.

Dear Lord, thank you for your presence and wisdom in the election of Bishop Frederick Paradesi Babu. May you continue to hold fast to him and give him strength, courage, understanding, and diplomacy as he begins his calling as Moderator Bishop of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church in India. Help him and the other leaders of the church to follow your will and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of Andhra Pradesh and the world.
Amen.
