A major decision that was made at this past August’s ELCA Churchwide Assembly in New Orleans consolidated the present three lay ministry rosters (associates in ministry, deaconesses, and diaconal ministers) into a new, single lay roster of Ministers of Word and Service who will be known colloquially as “deacons.” The effective date for this decision will be January 1, 2017.
This decision is producing all sorts of “ripple effects” throughout the ELCA, including two web-based resources: the ELCA Candidacy Portal and the ELCA Mobility System. We’re writing to you to inform you that both the Candidacy Portal and the Mobility System will be inaccessible from December 15, 2016 through January 17, 2017.
Rostered Leaders: This will affect you if you currently have an active Rostered Leader Profile (RLP) and wish to edit it OR if you are planning to submit a new RLP. Between December 15, 2016 and January 17, 2017, the ELCA Mobility System will be in “read-only” mode, meaning that no new RLPs may be submitted, nor will anyone be able to amend an existing RLP. So if you are planning on submitting or editing your RLP, you are advised to do so before December 15, 2016.
Call Committee Chairpersons: If your congregational call committee is drafting (or revising) its Ministry Site Profile (MSP) you are advised to submit it before December 15, 2016. Just as with the RLPs, no edits will be able to be made to existing MSPs nor will any new MSPs be able to be submitted between December 15, 2016 and January 17, 2017.
Candidacy Process Participants: You, too, will be unable to submit any applications, forms or other documents to the Candidacy Portal between December 15, 2016 and January 17, 2017. Please note that this includes the Assignment Process documents that persons now going through the Approval process need to submit in order to go through the Churchwide Assignment Process in February/March of 2017.
