Quick Facts About the Synod

There are 280 congregations in the
Northwestern Minnesota Synod. (Visit some of the Church Home

The NWMN Synod is ranked second in the ELCA for
congregational support of Missionaries and World Hunger programs.

Since ninety percent of all Lutheran students are attending
state colleges, we reach out to them through support to Lutheran Campus
Ministries of Minnesota. ($67,355)

We help to provide continuing education for both clergy and
lay people through CHARIS, an excellent ecumenical center for church and
community, located at Concordia College in Moorhead. ($10,344)

Through our support of Lutheran Higher Education, we help
prepare students for lives of leadership and service at twelve ELCA
colleges. ($44,000)

We give strong support to Luther Seminary in St. Paul,
Minnesota, helping to provide for our synod's future pastors and associates
in ministry, as well as serving the whole Church. ($111,440)

Through our support of the Minnesota Council of Churches we
participate in training events for pastors and other church leaders, rural
ministry events, education, and expressions of unity with sister church
bodies. ($36,000)

We provide support to Oak Grove Lutheran High School in
Fargo, the only Lutheran High School in our area. ($3,220)

We provide support for ministries at Goodridge Lutheran
Church, Goodridge, and the Fargo-Moorhead Native American Christian
Ministry. ($19,600)

Through boards and committees, we serve congregations in the
areas of candidacy, evangelism, stewardship, worship, hunger and justice
concerns, global mission, rural ministry, youth and family ministries,
social ministries and outreach. ($16,793)

Of the mission support monies given to the Northwestern
Minnesota Synod, 51 percent goes to ELCA Churchwide.

The NWMN Synod provides support to the Coalition for Public
Policy, Board of Social Ministry, Ecumenical and Cultural Institute, Joint
Committee on Addictions, Region 3 Camping Network, and Twin Ports Ministry
to Seafarers. ($14,721)

We provide seminary debt relief for newly graduated pastors
called to serve in the Northwestern Minnesota Synod through our Sustaining
Rural Ministry Program. This program allows for donations to the
current expense fund or the endowment fund.

We have a sister synod relationship with the Andhra
Evangelical Lutheran Church in India.
