The ELCA Youth Ministry Network (elcaymnet) exists to strengthen and empower adult youth ministry leaders in service to Christ as a part of God’s mission. They see a future where youth ministry in the ELCA flourishes and becomes ever stronger through renewal, education, and connection. Visit their website for events, resources, articles and more!
Youth Ministry Extravaganza
The Extravaganza is the ELCA Youth Ministry Network’s annual 4-day renewal, education, and networking conference for adults who work with youth in ELCA congregations. It is for the professional and the volunteer. It is for the old and the young. It is for the urban, the suburban and the rural. It is for pastors, it is for laypeople. It is for all who share in the adventure we call youth and family ministry.
Practice Discipleship Initiative
After a very positive experience with the Practice Discipleship Day at the 2012 ELCA National Youth Gathering, the people heading up this initiative didn’t want the momentum to end. With the help of the ELCA, SYMBOL (Synod Youth Ministry Band of Leaders), the ELCA Youth Ministry Network, and many colleges and seminaries, “phase two” began. The Practice Discipleship Initiative’s goal is to provide training resources for congregations in their faith formation work with young people.
If we want our young people to have a faith that makes a difference in their daily lives, it is vital that we have trained and equipped faith-filled adults who can give them the tools (faith practices) to follow Jesus. Kris Johnson, the LYO Advisor and Synod Gathering Coordinator for NWMN will be trained to be our Synod’s Practice Discipleship Coach. In the next two years, there will be trainings offered throughout the synod focusing on faith formation for those in the first-third of life.
