Position Summary
The Communications and Events Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the synod’s mission and vision by designing and implementing strategies to share our work, creating opportunities for engagement, and ensuring the effective planning of events. Through storytelling, communications, and event coordination, this position will help cultivate healthy and thriving communities devoted to Jesus and our neighbors in love.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Communications Strategy Development
    • Design and implement a comprehensive communications plan that reflects the synod’s vision and mission, enhancing engagement with congregations and communities.
    • Ensure messaging is consistent, clear, and mission-aligned across all platforms.
  2. Content Creation and Distribution
    • Manage communications across social media, email newsletters, direct mail campaigns, and the synod’s website, providing content that inspires and informs.
    • Collaborate with staff, congregations, and ministry teams to share stories of the Gospel at work, highlighting how the synod nurtures safe and healthy spaces for ministry and is shaping an abundant future for the congregations, leaders and communities of Northwestern Minnesota.
  3. Collaboration and Storytelling
    • Work closely with synod leadership, congregations, and ministry teams to tell compelling stories of transformation and impact, showcasing devotion to Jesus and service to neighbors.
    • Develop or coordinate the development of multimedia content, including written articles, graphics, and videos, to connect with diverse audiences.
  4. Event Planning and Coordination
    • Lead the planning and execution of up to three major annual events, such as the Synod Assembly, The Theology for Ministry Conference, leadership, and retreats, ensuring they reflect the synod’s mission and vision.
    • Coordinate logistics for meetings and conferences that support the ministry of the synod, including scheduling, venue selection, and communication with participants.
    • Recruit and oversee event teams, providing clear guidance to ensure successful planning and implementation.
  5. Administrative and Logistical Support
    • Manage event budgets and timelines to ensure resources are used efficiently.
    • Evaluate events for effectiveness, gathering feedback for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Deep commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod and the ELCA.
  • Proven experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, with strong storytelling, content creation, and digital strategy skills.
  • Demonstrated success in event planning and coordination and task management, including managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and constituencies. Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms, and email marketing tools. Facility with graphic design software is preferred, though not required.

Work Context
This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Bishop’s office. This role is in-office M-R, with Fridays being negotiable remote workdays.

The role requires occasional travel for synod events and meetings, with some evening and weekend availability.

Full-Time Custodian, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the physical appearance and condition of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all members, visitors, and staff. This role involves both interior and exterior cleaning, as well as assisting with room setups and other custodial duties as needed. 

Essential Functions

I. Building Interior

  • a. Perform custodial duties to ensure cleanliness throughout the church, including the Sanctuary, Gathering Space, Chapel, Education Wing, Nursery, and various meeting rooms.
  • b. Stock, clean, and sanitize bathrooms; sweep, vacuum, mop floors and hallways.
  • c.  Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • d.  Gather and empty trash and recycling.
  • e. Assist with room setups and take-downs for meetings, events, and services as needed.

II. Building Exterior  

  • a. Maintain the church property and grounds to ensure they are presentable to the congregation and the public.
  • b. Perform daily upkeep of the building and common areas.
  • c. Clean and maintain church equipment after use.
  • d. Wash and clean all exterior windows and doors.

III. Other Responsibilities  

  • a. Notify the Congregation Engagement Director of any needs for materials, supplies, or repairs.
  • b. Provide building security by locking and unlocking the facility, maintaining a positive and inviting presence for members and visitors.
  • c. Complete special projects as assigned, such as deep cleaning or other tasks prioritized by the Congregation Engagement Director.

Full-Time Director of Generational Ministries, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls

Redeemer is looking to hire a full-time Director of Generational Ministries who is excited to use their gifts to lead ministries with our member kids, ages 0-100. We are looking for a leader who loves God and possesses a combination of organizational and people skills.

Full-time Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, First Lutheran Church, Bemidji, MN

Position Title: Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries

Job Summary: In this fulltime position the Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries will work with staff and congregation to develop a comprehensive children, youth and family ministry (birth - college age) that implements the mission and goals of First Lutheran Church. The Director will work in collaboration with the pastors, staff, Congregation Council and the congregation in a shared effort to develop, organize and implement this ministry to all ages.

Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and build a comprehensive ministry with children, youth and families
  • Coordinate the attainment of proper curriculum for children and youth programs
  • Oversee the leadership of the children’s ministry of the congregation
  • Lead the youth and family ministries of the congregation
  • Develop, plan and implement the Confirmation program of the congregation
  • Plan, implement and supervise the youth groups of the congregation
  • Involve children, youth and families in the life and mission of the church
  • Help assistant recruit, equip and involve adults in children, youth and family ministries

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. A personal foundation in the Christian Faith and a member of the Lutheran Church (ELCA)

Part-time Youth, Family, and Education Ministries Coordinator, Gran-Park-Rollag Parish

The focus of this position is to help the congregation, including children, youth, and families, establish a cross-generational caring community to support children (PreK through Grade 6) and youth (Grades 7-12) in their faith formation, and to help youth and families hear and live the gospel in the context of home, working in partnership with the life of the congregation. This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours per week, including both regular and flexible hours. This position has the opportunity to grow into full time.

Accountable to:

  1. Parish youth ministry board
    1. Will meet regularly with the pastor and board (TBD)
  2. Ministry Teams
    1. Youth Ministry and Christian Education Ministry Team
  3. Parish Council, reporting on a regular basis

Qualifications:

This position requires a person who is:

  1. Rooted in Lutheran theology, shows commitment to Christ, and has experienced a personal calling to minister to youth.
  2. A role model reflecting a living faith for youth and adults
  3. Able to assist adult leaders and youth in their faith life, both one-on-one and in groups
  4. Effective in maintaining positive relationships with youth, parents, volunteers, and staff
  5. Experience working with youth (as a volunteer or professional) in the Church

Preferred Education:

Prior experience with working with youth.

College degree or working toward, with focus or experience in Youth and Family Ministry, Elementary or Secondary education, and/or Communication.

Areas of Responsibility:

Christian Education (PreK through Grade 6)

  • Sunday School: organize curriculum, volunteers/teachers, classes, lead prayer for opening Sunday School, special events, Rally Sunday, Sunday School Christmas Program, Palm Sunday events, etc.
  • Milestone Events: Work with the Pastor to plan and conduct milestone such as Holy Baptism celebration, Bible distribution, Holy Communion preparation class, etc.
  • Vacation Bible School: Organize, promote, and help lead the summer VBS
  • Meet/collaborate with Christian Education Ministry

Middle Level Youth Ministry (Grades 7-9)

  • Sunday School: organize curriculum, volunteers/teachers and classes
  • Confirmation Ministry Education: lead large group sessions, opening devotions, mentoring portion of the program, etc.
    • Within the Confirmation experience, organize, recruit, and facilitate Middle Level Youth Ministry faith-based activities of fellowship and service. (Middle School Retreat)
      • Examples of fellowship may include Confirmation retreats, summer church camp, mission trip opportunities, etc.
      • Examples of service may include leading worship, assisting with technology for church

Secondary Youth Ministry (Grades 10-12)

  • Develop ministry programming to engage confirmed youth in the life of GPR Parish through high school graduation.
    • Organize and facilitate Secondary Youth Ministry faith-based activities of fellowship and
      • Coordinate youth fellowship outings/activities, encourage camping ministries, mission trip opportunities, volunteer opportunities, encourage involvement in Sunday School assistance, etc.
    • ELCA Youth Gathering Planning (organization, fundraising, volunteers, and participation)

Luther League (Grades 7-12)

  • Put together 1 event per quarter – service or Encourage youth to attend and invite friends
  • Partner with youth and parents to be involved in these events
  • Current annual fundraiser events
    • Labor Day weekend – Monday LL/Youth serve at WMSTR
    • Easter – LL/Youth serve Easter Breakfast

Coordination/Communications

  • Actively communicate the goals and activities of youth programs to the congregation through newsletter articles, social media posts, posters, flyers, and other forms of
  • Act as point person for communication and shared decision-making between members of Youth, Christian Education Ministry Teams, and church

Approximate Work Schedule:

This is a growing and evolving part-time position with flexible hours for planning and communicating. Scheduled hours include Sunday morning presence and leadership, Confirmation ministry, Youth Group meetings, some office hours, regular weekly meetings with the Pastor, and monthly meetings with the Education and Youth Ministry Teams. The Parish youth ministry board will meet with the coordinator and Pastor to review the responsibilities and hours needed for this position on an annual basis, or sooner if needed.

Compensation:

This is a salaried part time position starting at a minimum of 20 hours per week, $20,000 to $25,000 based on experience. Much of your time will be in the months of September through May. Travel pay will be included for events, trips, etc.

Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead: CHOIR DIRECTOR

Position Purpose: The Choir Director gives leadership to the individuals and choral music groups that perform during the worship services of Bethesda Lutheran Church.  

Responsibilities:  Work collaboratively with the Pastor and Organist/Pianist to assist in the development of the worship and music life of the congregation. The following constitute the major responsibilities of the Choir Director:

  1. Select music for all individuals and vocal groups that perform as a part of a worship service.
  2. Direct the Bethesda Choir for a minimum of three rehearsals per month from September through May, and choir performances a minimum of three Sundays a month, including some special worship services (i.e. Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday).
  3. Arrange for special music one Sunday per month from September through May, and 2 Sundays per month June through August.
  4. Attend all worship services to provide oversight and deal with problems which may arise in the area of worship and music.
  5. Arrange for qualified substitutes for absences.
  6. Encourage and seek to develop the gifts, talents and participation of the members of the congregation.
  7. Organize and maintain files and records of music used for worship or new music purchased by Bethesda Lutheran Church. Purchase new music as needed within budget allowances.
  8. Coordinate choir, musicians, soloists, special music, accompanists or additional choirs for worship several weeks in advance.
  9. Attend monthly staff meetings.
  10. Submit information for bulletins in a timely fashion as determined by the office staff.

Youth Coordinator is a shared coordinator between three Lutheran churches: Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, First Lutheran Church in Middle River, and  Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt 

Job Summary: The Youth Coordinator will plan and organize activities for the church youth that promotes engagement with the church and community while incorporating scripture. Youth will be organized into two groups for activities targeted by grade.  The youth coordinator will be responsible for planning activities for K to 6th grades and 7th to 12th grades.   

Responsibilities

  1. Plan social and fun activities for the youth
  2. Plan fundraising events or opportunities for the youth
  3. Communicate activities in bulletins, on church calendars and social media as needed
  4. Overnight trips will include devotion with the youth
  5. Coordinate and engage with others in the congregation when assistance is needed Partner with organizations, people, and resources in the community that relate to youth and seek to connect the youth with the community
  6. Time commitment of 40 hours a month
  7. Develop, manage, and function within an annual youth program budget
  8. Encourage spiritual growth by involving youth in worship services
  9. Ensure that safe environment policy are observed in all youth ministry settings and activities  

Qualifications

  2. Excellent leadership, communication, planning and organizational skills
  3. Ability to effectively communicate the word of God and scripture to youth in a relatable message
  4. Ability to estimate expenses for activities and communicate when additional fundraising may be necessary

Time Commitment

The Youth Coordinator position has flexible hours as a part-time, salaried position. The actual numbers of hours required during any given month are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. The Youth Coordinator may need to lead activities on the weekend, in the evening and possibly overnight.  

Work Performance Overview

Church Councils shall have general oversight of the life and work of the congregations, including youth activities.  Each church shall have a designated board responsible, under the leadership of the pastor, for the spiritual life and concerns of the congregation.
