Congregations in Call Process
These congregations are in a season of transition—listening, discerning, and trusting the Spirit’s guidance as they seek new leadership. This page offers an updated view of where each community is in the call process, from early transition to interviewing candidates and final decisions.
Guiding Your Transition
Questions about the call process? Pastor Genelle Netland, Associate to the Bishop for Leadership, is available to support and guide congregations throughout the call process.
Step One
The transition begins as the rostered minister shares their resignation with the congregation and the synod and prepares for the conclusion of their call.
Step Two
This step focuses on healthy closure of the pastoral relationship, including final paperwork, clear boundaries, and giving thanks for shared ministry.
Step Three
Congregational leaders work with the synod to discern how worship, pastoral care, and leadership will be provided during the vacancy.
Step Four
The congregation forms a call committee to guide the discernment process and work with synod staff in seeking the next rostered leader.
Step Five
Congregations are invited into conversation with the LGBTQ+ Accompaniment Team as they discern openness to calling LGBTQ+ rostered ministers.
Step Six
The call committee leads the congregation in reflection and self-study that will shape the Ministry Site Profile.
Step Seven
The call committee receives candidate names through the synod and begins the process of interviewing and discerning a good match.
Step Eight
After prayerful discernment, the call committee presents a final candidate to the congregation council and prepares for the congregational vote.
Step Nine
The congregation gathers to hear about the candidate, ask questions, pray together, and vote on whether to extend the call.
Step Ten
The congregation prepares to welcome its new pastor or deacon and begin a new chapter of ministry together.
Celebrate & Pray
With prayer, patience, and trust in the Spirit, your congregation has completed the call process and begun a new chapter of ministry.
